New Dublin Voices – Circle of Friends
International award-winning New Dublin Voices (NDV) is a leading Irish chamber choir. Founded by conductor Bernie Sherlock in 2005, from the start NDV has presented concert programmes that are fresh, innovative, and exciting, ranging widely in style and period from the medieval to the contemporary. The choir takes special pleasure in exploring the music of living composers and has given numerous Irish and world premieres.
The singers who make up NDV come from many backgrounds but share in common high levels of experience and musicianship, a commitment to attracting new audiences, and above all a love of performing excellent choral music.
NDV has won prizes at major competitions in France, Hungary, Germany, Finland, Belgium, and Spain. It is currently ‘Ireland’s Choir of the Year’, awarded by the Cork Choral Festival, 2013, and it was awarded first prize at the Concorso Polifonico in Arezzo, Italy in August 2013, thereby becoming the first Irish choir to win a place in the European Grand Prix for Choral Singing. This event will take place in Hungary in March 2014.
NDV released two CDs in 2010 – its debut recording Something Beginning with B, and Christmas with New Dublin Voices, declared "favourite Christmas CD" in the RTE Guide. Its next CD, focusing on contemporary Irish choral music, will be released in 2014 by Ireland’s leading label, RTÉ lyric fm.
The choir maintains a busy calendar of other activities including fund-raising for charities, television appearances, guesting with both orchestras of the national broadcaster, RTÉ, and performing at various special public events.
