NDV gets a youthful makeover

In just under two weeks, NDV will be appearing in Basel, Switzerland, in the European Festival of Youth Choirs. I hear your skepticism. Youth, eh?

Oh ye skeptics. You missed the news about the NDV Youth Choir. Set up in September 2013 and made up of NDV current members and alumni under the age of 25, this choir is already making waves in the choral world. Last week, Sunday 11th May, on its premier showing on Ireland's choral stage, the youth choir secured three first prizes in the Navan choral festival, and a second prize. Amongst these prizes was the crowning competition of National Choir of the Year!

If you're interesting in hearing the wonderful sound this new and youthful NDV makes, come along to Christchurch cathedral this Sunday 18th May as we share a concert with the Capital University Chapel choir from the States. We look forward to greeting you there!

NDV loved by the Londoners

New Dublin Voices are all back home after our trip to the First London International A Capella Choir Competition where we were delighted to be awarded the Audience Prize of £750, presented by Lady Tavener (wife of the late Sir John Tavener). This prize was awarded based on an audience vote throughout the competition and we were touched to be considered the audience favourite. We also had the privilege of meeting and working with the great Peter Phillips of the Tallis Scholars. Huge congratulations to the overall winners, the Spanish choir El Leon de Ora and director Marco Antonio Garcia da Paz for a great performance!

A reminder that you can hear us on the 28th April at 8pm in Christ Church Cathedral, sharing a concert with the renowned Canadian choir SPIRITUS. See you there!

Making some Canadian Friends

Canada's award-winning chamber choir SPIRITUS teams up with Ireland's internationally acclaimed New Dublin Voices for what promises to be a wonderful one-off concert in Dublin's Christ Church Cathedral on Monday, April 28th at 8pm.

The Canadians are visiting Dublin as part of an Irish tour which culminates in the 2014 Cork International Choral Festival. Conducted by Timothy Shantz, this outstanding choir will perform a wide-ranging selection of choral music including beautiful Canadian folk songs in contemporary arrangements.

Joining SPIRITUS is New Dublin Voices in a programme of striking contrasts between great masterpieces of the Renaissance and the exciting and provocative music of our own times. Tickets can be bought through our website, or at the door on the night!

Grand Prix, Conversations and London Ahoy!

We have had a busy month!

Earlier in March, we had the enormous honour of representing Ireland in the European Grand Prix for Choral music, the first time an Irish choir has done this. While we didn't win, we had an absolute blast taking part, listening to some phenomenal choirs and enjoying the surrounds of Debrecen, Hungary!

Saturday past, the 5th April, we were privileged enough to be asked to perform a number of commissions from the Irish Composers Collective at the concert 'Conversations 1'. We premiered 7 brand new pieces to a very enthusiastic audience in the beautiful surrounds of University Street church on St. Stephen's Green. This was the first of 2 concerts, so keep an eye out for the second.

Having finished that wonderful project for now, our sights are firmly set on the London A Capella choral competition, which we head to on the 24th April. Excited doesn't cover it! This competition will be in the gorgeous acoustic of St. John's in the field, in Westminster, and will be commemorating the late great John Tavener.

Keep checking in for information!
