The Jabberwock

One of our pieces for the competition in Cork this weekend is Säde Rissanen's 'Jabberwocky', based on Lewis Carroll's poem.

Here's the original drawing of the jabberwock by Tenniel (who was a political cartoonist but famously collaborated with Lewis Carroll). Mike - one of our frabjous tenors - thought it would be good for us to get to know exactly what it was whiffling towards us through the tulgey wood! No wonder there was so excitement when the boy (with vorpal blade in hand, bottom right) slew it! Isn't it really quite 20th Century Fox for 1865?

Even as we write, our brilliant producer Bill Somerville-Large is immersed in post-production with two NDV recordings: our debut CD, “Something Beginning With B” which will be available during our upcoming tour “NDV in the Suburbs”, and a CD of Christmas music for release in November.

Cork Choral Festival

We are on our way to the Fleischmann International Trophy Competition at the Cork International Choral Festival. Everyone’s looking forward to being in Cork and meeting up with the various choirs taking part from around the world.

Russell Watson concert

Our April concert with the RTÉ Concert Orchestra and tenor Russell Watson was a casualty of the volcanic ash crisis. It will now take place on August 22.
